Welcome

This is a blogspot version of a charity that is trying to become a wonderful, wonderful thing.

At the beginning of 2008, a friend of mine and I came up with an idea called Operation Bag of Home. The idea is very simple. We make pocket-sized bags, fill them with small toiletries, powdered drinks, etc., and then ship them to our men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan.

There's just one problem...we're having a hard time getting the "stuff." Even though things like wet ones, tooth paste, and other items are inexpensive in themselves, it's difficult to build up an inventory month after month.

Does this sound like something you want to help with? Visit our command center at http://community.livejournal.com/operationboh. If you want to talk about ideas, ask questions or anything else, you can do that here :)

I've not gotten into Live Journal, a person can only have sooooo many blogs; but with it being summer I would suggest everyone save the goodies from their hotel rooms from vacations. Shampoo, lotion, conditioner, soap. Perfect for putting into those bags you're talking about. I also save them and send them to a womans shelter, as they have those needs too. Trouble is, I can't think of a good way to do toothbrushes. Buying them individually gets to be pricey. You can buy a pack of 5 or sometimes 7 at Sams; but wonder about opening said package to put one toothbrush in a bag. Would the receiver question how clean the brush was?
